Character Background: Kanaya Maryam is a troll, or an Alternian if one wishes to get technical. She comes from a homicidal and violent society with an overly complicated system of romance and reproduction. She is unusual in that she is one of very few trolls who can stand and enjoy the light of the Alternian sun. As such, she has developed an interest in landscaping. She is also one of the few trolls interested in sewing and fashion. Of course, that’s all rather moot now because her entire race has been wiped out by the Sgrub game and the machinations of the being(s) behind it.

But let’s start at the beginning. Unlike pretty much every other troll, Kanaya was not hatched. She was, in fact, a product of Karkat's ectobiology and time shenanigans. On Alternia, she managed to survive the Trials in order to be granted a lusus, a creature that acts as a sort of guardian/parent to a young troll. In her case, her lusus was a virgin mother grub. She grew up to the tender age of 7 solar sweeps (roughly thirteen human years) and through her friends, became embroiled in the game of Sgrub, wherein the players most win the game and are granted the right to create a new universe in their image. During the course of this game, Kanaya’s lusus dies, apparently of natural causes, and Kanaya retrieves a matriorb from her corpse.

She is revealed to be Vriska Serket’s moirail and does her best to reign in Vriska’ tendencies of manipulation and brutality towards her friends, especially Tavros. Despite her claim to only be ‘pale’ for Vriska, when Kanaya sees her kissing Tavros, she becomes extremely distraught and tosses a dress she made for Vriska out the window, confirming that perhaps her feelings were of a more flushed variety. As Vriska’s moirail, however, she feels at least partially responsible for not being able to stop Vriska’s machinations that ultimately derail both sessions. Since Scratch was involved, however, she also realizes that ultimately, nothing she could have done would have helped.

In her Sgrub session, Kanaya serves as the Sylph of Space, and in this capacity is responsible for igniting her session's forge as well as the breeding of the genesis frog. She also uses the forge to destroy the Black Queen's ring in order to prevent it from falling into the hands of Jack Noir. During the course of her session, she also creates Eridan's wand in order to stop him pestering her about the secrets of magic. Unfortunately for Kanaya and her friends, their session goes horribly wrong, thanks to the actions of Vriska, and they find themselves trapped, hiding on a lonely asteroid within the Medium, awaiting their destruction by the unstoppable Jack Noir. This is all part of a scheme by Vriska to achieve god-status and defeat Noir herself. Kanaya does her best to help her friends and to keep their spirits up, especially their erstwhile leader, Karkat. Ultimately, however, the trolls fall victim to their inherent penchant for violence and fall to bickering among themselves, leading to Eridan Ampora’s murder of Feferi Pixies, serious injury of Sollux Captor, the destruction of the Matriorb and Kanaya’s own death.

Fortunately for Kanaya, she happens to be a Rainbow Drinker, the troll equivalent of a vampire. She rises from death, now glowing and with a thirst for troll hemoglobin. She arrives at a 3x showdown combo between Vriska, Eridan, and the sober Gamzee Makara in time to clock Vriska, bulgekick Gamzee, and then proceed to saw Eridan in half. It is at this point that she arrives in Wonderland, having had the shades previously belong to Equius descend.

Abilites/Special Powers: Kanaya Maryam is, by this point, a 'rainbow drinker' who subsists on blood and is capable of surviving wounds that might otherwise be debilitating to a normal Alternian, short of decapitation and/or dismemberment. She can heal from these wounds via the drinking of blood (more specifically Alternian) and the absorption of sunlight. Similarly, she can withstand sunlight in a way that many other Alternians are not capable of or choose not to do. She requires no other sustenance and does not need to breathe.

Kanaya carries with her a tube of lipstick that is capable of transforming into her primary weapon, a chainsaw, which she can use to deadly effect (see: Eridan Ampora). She is an accomplished gardener, seamstress, and a fashion aficiando. She is also capable of captchaloguing items using her chastity fetch modus.

Third-Person Sample: The soil here was good, damp and crumbling between her fingers. Kanaya smiled as knelt in the little patch of earth she had chosen for her next project and jammed her trowel downwards. With a quiet grunt, she turned it over, digging downwards into the rich earth. Her bare fingers dug in alongside and pulled some of the soil away before the troll reached over to pluck the flower she’d chosen and surrounded it with some of the disturbed earth before sitting back and surveying her newest plot.

She stood with a grunt and moved a few feet to begin the next planting. A pause as she pushed the wide brim of her sunhat back. It was a little lonely, she had to admit, being one of the few Alternians that enjoyed sunlight and working in the soil. But life as a young troll was always lonely, even for her friends. Her race’s homicidal tendencies really saw to that isolation.

It was nice to get outside, to landscape the area around her hive. Sometimes she wished that some of her friends could join her, but none of them cared for gardening or for the daylight for that matter. Frustrating, but what could you really do about it? Perhaps she could coax Vriska out here one day. Though, that would probably end in some sort of minor awkwardness. Vriska, it felt, was content to remain moirails, despite Kanaya's more. . .flushed tendencies. It wasn't exactly painful, but it was, well, uncomfortable. And she wasn't quite sure whether she should just confess to Serket or wait for her to come around naturally. What was a girl to do?

Of course there was always Karkat. But then she realized he'd probably just complain about the sun the whole time, and while it might be entertaining, she'd have to spend a bit of time soothing his disturbed feelings. But then they might be able to watch some troll romantic-comedies together, which was an attractive proposition. Getting out when you were a member of a homicidal species was hard, now that she thought about. Especially when most of them were nocturnal.

The train of thought brought a laugh to her lips. Either of them coming out during the day was an event that would only occur with the proper alignment of celestial bodies. With that final thought she stood again. There was much to do and with so little time in the day, she couldn’t spend all her time wistfully thinking about her friends. There was work to be done.

Hello To Anyone Who Might Receive This Memo

I Seem To Have Been Forcibly Removed From Our Hideout Within The Medium And Transplanted To A

Strange And Unknown Place

This Is Of Course Cause For Quite A Lot Of Concern

It Would Be Extremely Helpful If Someone Could Offer The Appropriate Information And I Would Be Most Grateful

First Where Am I

Second How Have I Been Brought Here

Sadly I Have My Doubts About The Availability Of Such Information And Or The Veracity Of The Answers I Would Receive
